Women’s Rights in Times of War:
a conversation between an Afghan and a Ukrainian woman
Monday, August 5
19:00 EET
Online via Zoom
How are countries in Asia and Europe, with different cultures and environments, threatened by Russia? How do the political decisions of the EU and the USA affect the lives of millions of women in Afghanistan and Ukraine?
Generation Ukraine invites you to an online event with Friba Rezayee, Afghanistan’s first female Olympian athlete and Karina Menshikova, member of Generation Ukraine, to discuss the status of women’s rights in times of war. The participants will share insights into their personal experiences and discuss the political implications affecting women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule and Ukraine during the Russian invasion.
We will highlight Friba’s inspirational story, one of the first women to represent Afghanistan in the Olympic games and discuss how the situation has drastically changed now that the Taliban do not allow women to participate in sports, along with other restrictions that apply to them. Additionally, the speakers will address the dangerous relationship between Russia and the Taliban and its implications for global security, Ukraine first and foremost.
We invite the participants to delve into the historical perspectives of women’s rights in Afghanistan and the courage they have shown during years of severe oppression. Through powerful personal narratives and expert insights, this event aims to raise awareness, inspire action, and build a supportive community advocating for women’s rights in war-torn regions.
Don’t miss this opportunity to participate in an important conversation that might change your perspective on the times we live in.
